After my first week in Oslo, I can only admit that I really like the place. A more urban place then Fåvang, and all the small minded people living nearby. Oslo has a large population. Not the kind I am used to from Lillehammer, but in a positive mather. Since when the number of people increases, the more you walk around unnoticed. You can be more yourself, and not thinker about what the next one would think of you.

I have decided to move to a near town from where I live now. The place is called Vinstra, and is the place where I work. Starting this september, I will start on a Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) sertificate. This is with Windows Server 2008, instead of the old Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE). My current plan is to live there for just one year, and the move on. Meanwhile this period I will take regular trips to Oslo to get a more refined view on the world, rather to get closed back in Vinstra.

After some more details from the police. It came to my knowledge, that I were conned by a female from Iraq. A chance in million years that it was even possible. I were not given all the info., but it seemed like she did not have a norwegian greencard. And there had been some previous cases regarding the police. The husbands I mentioned earlier was not even a part of the con. I learned it the hard way, never pay up front.

After some investigation today, I found out that the whole deal about a cheap MacBook Pro 17″ for under $2000 was just some scam pulled by a person calling himself Krister Aga. Been in contact with the locale police, but they had no record or whatso ever about a person by the name Krister Aga. I will press charges against him this friday. Will keep you posted!

Me and a friend of mine, spent the weekend on a nearby cabin. I brough his Dell M1710 and I my external harddrive. We watched a couple of movies, some in regular DVD-quality, and some in really nice HD. Since the Dell M1710 is equipped with a WUXGA-screen, capeable to display a awesome resolution of 1920×1200. This made watching Eastern Promises (2007) a dream.

After a good review from Macworld, Canon PIXMA MX850 seems like a good overall printer. It is more or less useable for small offices, but nevertheless, I think it would have been a great additional to my incoming MacBook Pro. Since it is compatible with Windows XP/Vista and Mac OS X Tiger/Leopard. The old Lexmark Z45 is only compatible with Windows XP, and I think Mac OS X Panther or something.

Not that I really need a new printer, but since I will become more active on the political-front. And with a good printer, you can create some nice flyers to publish.

When I read the announcement made by Canonical Ltd. about the new Ubuntu 8.04 LTS. I started to think, why not install Ubuntu on the desktop PC, when I get an much faster PC with the incoming MacBook Pro, (atleast I hope it shows up soon enough). Then I can start to temper with GNU/LInux in a more userfriendly enviroment, rather then the slice I am currently hosting this blog from.

Update:  Ubuntu 8.04 LTS is released for download.

Still waiting…

The dude selling me the MacBook Pro, has not replyed since yesterday morning. I am starting to get very impatient. If I still has not got any reply tomorrow, I will call him, and ask what took so long.

Next time, I will withhold a larger part of the money before transfer all.

Getting my first mac later this week. Purchased a new MacBook Pro 17″ from a guy who needed the money instead of a brand new notebook. Never been opened, and I got it about 45% cheaper then the stock price from Apple Store.

Specs:

  • 2.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
  • 2GB memory
  • 250GB hard drive
  • Double-layer SuperDrive
  • NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 512MB
  • 1680 x 1050 pixels

I really hope this can be a real improvement from my getting-to-old desktop computer.

MindTooth now run on a reinstalled VPS server from SliceHost. This time around I have installed a different web server, LiteSpeed rather then the usually memory hungry, Apache. MySQL and PHP support is also added. Now with an updated version of MySQL from Dotdeb and PHP compiled from source using LiteSpeed’s own PHP SAPI extension.

I really like the usability of LiteSpeed contra Apache. This is all handled with a nice web administration interface. Planing also to do some testing of eZ. The norwegian CMS-solution.
